I have suggested before that the admins need to fluff the forum with original topics and those posted from elsewhere. It is still valid. It is still not being done.

Wait wait wait...you expect me to put effort in? Jesus, people, I can barely be assed to turn in taxes from 5 years ago...

But I think it's time to split this thread up!

Also, it might help if we all posted in the nude. I know walkerp is already doing this.

Also, I think a lot of gamers aren't interested in diversity, at all. That doesn't mean they hate diversity but they have no use for it. Why hang out at a place where you can talk about any game when you may play four different RPGs in your entire lifetime?

It is an interesting question. I do it.

I mean, I don't play much but D&D and derivatives thereof. And yet here I am, asking questions, listening to things people do in radically different games to see how it might apply and add enjoyment to my own gaming, asking for input and advice from people...

It is crazy, I tell you.

Oh, I don't doubt you do it and a few people do it. But by and large, I think people with specific gaming profiles are likely to hang on specific gaming sites.

Not that I think it's wrong either way.

the problem with sites that are specific to one game or another is they always seem to have somewhat heavy moderation. IMO, if you ban politics and porn, further moderation is really not necessary, and is, in the long run, counterproductive.

wait...which is counterproductive...banning politics and porn or moderation after doing so?

We have politics on CoG, but it's kept in it's own little ghetto where it belongs and most of the users avoid it anyway.

No porn though. There's always that "barely not porn" picture thread on any forum with an off-topic section, and there is one bloke I recall who got in hot water for pushing things past the line.

But mostly, it's a decent board. People talk about games, get in arguments about games, and it works. There's very little moderation at all, and yet somehow it's not a complete fucking cesspit. We've only banned like three guys, one for posting lemonparty, one for blatant trolling (technically not banned, only banned from politics, so of course he left), and one guy who'd been systematically harassing me for the better part of 6 years.

It helps though that most all of us knew each other from a prior, shittier site, but as in this case it was literally the entire quality userbase moving over from a site where it was discovered the owner had been embezzling funds, it wasn't exactly a theRPGsite/RPGhaven sort of situation. We didn't really leave anyone behind.

So I did and found out that Droog has been banned today for, brace yourself, "group attacks on people who work retail". Whatever the fuck that means.

 He just thought that Clerks was shite. Don't we all ?

I frequent RPGnet now and then but for me at least, I'd rather be gaming than talking about gaming (which is not to say that I think such talk is meaningless, but I just can't be bothered trawling through the shit to get to the usefull stuff). Looking back, all that time wasted on arguing about shit that didn't even remotely have anything to do with my gaming. I read some of my old politics posts on theRPGsite and go, wtf...why did I even bother. Thankfully I don't have anything like that on RPGnet.

David R
