Please tell me it was for technical reasons.

Perhaps Fred Hick's lazer gaze burnt it to ashes...

I'm waiting for Bill to get the final answer. I will tell you that I checked all of the moderator and admin logs and the only thing I can see is a single post from that thread was deleted.

The only thing I could think of at this point is perhaps if one deletes the first post the thread disappears, but I can't confirm that. Even if that is the case, I do not have an explanation as to why the first post might have been deleted unless Simon requested it.

That's all I could come up with. From my experience, Bill is not the kind of person to yank a thread for reasons other than technical or legal reasons.

Stay tuned...

Cool. Thanks for the communication, Jim! It often seems that when there is a potentially controversial or flamey topic, technical errors also start popping up. As if the forum software itself conspires to encourage conflict. Perhaps a demon that thrives on the succor of human anger lives amidst the phpBB code.

No problem, walker.

Well, I just did a brief test (some of you might have even caught a glimpse). I created a thread, added a reply, then deleted the first post. Sure enough, the entire thread went away.

<SPECULATION ALERT - SPECULATION ALERT - SPECULATION ALERT>
So here's my speculation - Simon sent Bill a PM wanting to avoid any more flame war fuel and asked to have his initial post deleted. Bill, being a nice guy, did so not realizing it would delete the entire thread.
</SPECULATION ALERT - SPECULATION ALERT - SPECULATION ALERT>

The above, in case you weren't sure, is speculation. I won't know until we hear from Bill. I do not have access to the servers or the database, so I can tell what's still there (in theory, removing the first post and subsequently the thread, may not have removed all of the other posts - it depends on what kind of referential integrity exists at the database level).

Hmm, yeah, Shepherd was pushing my buttons and I got pissed. Andy convinced me I should change my post and then I decided to delete it (the post). Wow. We might want to be careful with the delete post. Sorry about that. I can look and see if we can recover it but I suspect it is gone but good.

Feel free to start another one. Maybe on methods of distribution including IPR. There are a number of channels out there and IPR is just one of them.

Again, sorry but yes, it was a glitch and not a nefarious plot by the admins.

It would surprise me, Bill, if the database had that kind of referential integrity where it cascaded the delete. I'll take a look at the d20 Haven one, though there may be a few differences...

Jim, it was a post down thread (one of mine) so I think we need to not delete posts until we get to the bottom of this.

It's counterintuitive and unproductive to let us know the difference if you want your nefarious plots to have maximum impact.
