Okay – we are now taking turns naming our best interests. We continue until each PC has at least two best interests, and each NPC has at least one. The game recommends two best interests for PCs, but you can have up to three.

* You can cast your chr's best interests against either the GM's characters or other players' characters.
* If you want your chr to be a recurring chr (in future chapters), you should cast his/her best interests against other chrs where they are strong. That is, you must challenge him/her.
* Your chr's best interests don't have to be compatible – their value is the conflicts they create.
* If it's cool, it's okay. For instance, MZR asks if his best interest is too ambitious. No such thing!

I'm on it. I'm still waiting for best interests.

I don't get best interests. Can you explain further?

Best interests are the driving force of the game. It's what your chr wants or needs, maybe without even knowing it themselves. It's assumed that during the game you will push for your chr's best interests.

The game instructs me, as GM, to cast my NPCs' best interests against PCs. As players, you can cast them against PCs or NPCs. Ideally we should end up with a nicely tangled set of best interests and characters primed for conflict. Then we start the game and see how they all play out.

My first best interest, for example, was that Anahita (the bandit queen) wants to ditch her followers and escape on her own. That may well put her in conflict with Jim's chr at some point, since he's her bodyguard. On the other hand, it may not, depending on how Jim feels about it.

My advice is not to sweat too much about it. Go for something that has lots of potential for conflict and fits your idea of your chr. What does a wicked she-demon want? What is in her best interests?

If that isn't enough, please feel free to ask more questions.

Its in Morganna's best interest to convince Shalmanisar to resume his worship of her.

That's good! Now, is Jim still in?

MZR, working on the chr sheet thread.

This is probably as good a time as any to ask: does anybody know an online dice roller that will do what we need? We need to be able to roll up to four different polyhedral dice at once (ideally).

[There's this, but there might be better ones.]

[It looks like Invisible Castle will do the job.]

Droog, my work firewall blocks Invisible Castle. This will hamper my posting somewhat.

Snail's Pace has a die roller that works on forum (http://snailspace.forgreatjustice.net/).
