Jim, I don't like to hassle people, but are we all going to have to wait three days between each of your posts?

droog - I sincerely apologize. It's been a mixture of fear and sheer tumult. As you've probably seen me post, our company moved locations. This allows me to work from home - but it was such a cluster of mis-communication and lack of leadership that I'm just getting my servers here at home up and running. And I'll have to repeat it all again.

Now, normally this wouldn't bother me but I really want to get this right (you all seem to be much better at this than I).

Combine the two and I get paralyzed.

I will try better and if I can't improve, we can move me out and get someone else. Or you can boot me now if you feel it's necessary and I'll have no hard feelings.

Thanks,
Jim

I'm not keen to boot anybody at this stage. Look, don't be scared, just play your chr how you want to. We've got a good bunch; nobody's going to shit on you. I'm not watching you like a hawk to make sure you get it right. I haven't got a checklist of appropriate responses. Play from the gut and you'll be fine.

Jim,

We're all noobs here, well, except for old hat Ian. ;) I am new to both HeroQuest and Hero Wars too. This is my very first character under HeroQuest. I am such a noob that I thought rolling a 19 for my opening scene was good. Droogmeister is noob when it comes to PbP gaming. We're all in it together, brother. Go get your banditry on! :D

OK...so here's where I need help. Do I describe how I want to go about avoiding the snarling enemy using my abilities? Do I pull the shitty "I'm a noob" to give me an ability to dodge? Do I use the evaluate victim to say I could tell he was about to pounce?

Do I do this all through description? And then roll?

1. Ideally, you will write a description that incorporates the abilities you want to pull in. In FtF/TT, you would do it verbally. When you're happy with however you want to react, you can go ahead and roll (if you like we can do the maths first).

2. It's not shitty. As-you-go is an explicit option in chrgen. If it makes you feel better, every ability you use up is one less ability to pick in future.

3. Is he a 'victim'? That's the question. How do you see it?

I like the type of Ambrosius, an old man with balls who don't mind talking shit to bad boys by the dozen avec panache :D We'll soon learn what Aeddan thinks of the future.

I really enjoy the PCs. This introduction is doing a good job, Hollywood style, with the contrast between the characters and all. I'm really looking forward to discover what troubles they're going to get into. This is much more fun than I have had in any pbp :)
