Post Ideas for Solo OD&D for my 6 yr old
My six year old son made up a 1st level fighter, named him Dragon Torcher (which I originally thought he'd said Dragon Torture until he clarified). He played though a fight with a gnoll and a pair of goblins with his mommy playing a 1st level elf named Jemra.

My wife hasn't been feeling well lately, so we haven't played since last weekend. He's begging for more D&D (as in, he asks for it every night) and with some free time this weekend, I want to run something and figure its just he and I.

He wants to fight "big monsters". I had him roll 3d6 and assign stats, gave max HP (using Swords & Wizardry), so he's a pushover in a fight.

Anyone have some suggestions for paper tigers and a loose story idea a six year old would dig? I'm comfy with coming up with a story, but some cool D&D monster suggestions would be welcome.

Would he like the Mimic - treasure chest that pops out teeth, arms, and eyes when you reach into it's mouth? Maybe he meets some shady characters (e.g. weak troll that lives under a bridge). When he beats the troll (who tries to keep him from passing over a bridge) the troll begs for mercy. "Let me live and I will tell you where you can find a chest full of gold!" Little does your son know that the treasure is the mimic above, which the troll knows about.

NICE! I really like it. I'm sorely tempted to use a carrion crawler because it's the first monster I ever faced in D&D (red box, the module in the book), but I like the lesson (sort of).

Well, a Carrion Crawler actually performs a much-needed function in a dungeon (clean up of dead stuff and clearing out other dangerous vermin). It's bad to kill them. What you really need is a "bus schedule" to figure out when they are going to come by and stay out of the way. :)
