...and I've just been to busy to post properly about it.

So, here are some pics and info...

So this is how the book arrived:

The box is only big enough to fit the book. In fact, "Box" is a bit of a misnomer in some ways. Essentially, they wrapped the book with cardboard..as you can kind of see in this next pic:

Some people complained because their books arrived with corners a bit pushed in and some with scratches. I wasn't so affected and the complaints in many cases were for the Gold Leaf Cover (sometimes called the Heavy Metal Cover) that is more of a collectors item. On the one hand, I can see the desire for a pristine copy. On the other...really? I should note that Goodman has been addressing folks concerns including, as far as I can tell, sending out replacement copies if desired.

This second picture also gives you the cover in all its glory...

Now...one of the perks of pre-ordering, either the Standard Cover or the Heavy Metal Cover, was that you got included in the deal an adventure. So when you open the cover of the core book, tucked inside is a little surprise:

You can't see it from this shot, but the adventure is sticky-tacked onto the first page - which is art work. I was, at first, concerned because sometimes these kinds of arrangements can lead to the tearing of the page...and in this it wasn't just some white filler page.

But it came out without incident and so I also have Doom of the Savage Kings.

Much has been made about just how big this book is...and it is...

So here's a shot of the spine of the book:

I have another shot of it with a ruler...but that seemed...creepy. Suffice it to say it's an inch and a half thick. I think the only book that competes with it is Ptolus.

Finally, the art.

It's frickin' awesome (IMHO). Really quite fun. Take a look!

The inside front cover:

Then, the last few pages are all just artwork...it's cool!

One last note that doesn't have associated pics...

One of the other cool things is that the book contains, after the appendices, not one but two adventures. One is the 0-1 level funnel adventure, Portal Under the Stars (which I played in the first playtest a couple of years ago). The other is a fifth level adventure.

So in this "package" I have the core rules, all spells, monsters, a judges section, and three adventures - pus the artwork!

I should also note that I'm still reading the rules, though I've finished reading the Doom adventure and hops to get some time to run my kids through it...

Questions?

Nice nail-job, Jim!

More seriously, damn but that's made me want to get it now.

Initially, i thought the game went a bit OTT with the tables and variable results and whatnot, but all your pics are gnawing at my resolve...

I was wondering how many other peoples' posts it would take...you "nailed" it in one!

Those are my daughter's finger nails...she loves the game.

The tables are daunting. But I suspect that it's about the same as any other D&D game - we were always looking up spell effects. Rest of the game is pretty straightforward.

What else do you want pics of...want to see a spell table?

Gorgeous book, Skach!

I want to hear play test results. How does it compare with, say, S&W like we played? More like 1e rather than basic?

Remember how the Infidelus rules had that spell casting stuff where you could get different results based on a roll?

That was put in place after I did the first playtest back in...what...2010?..at GaryCon...I just streamlined mine because I didn't have the time to come up with the spell tables like they do in this book.

It's like S&W with a bunch of cool twists...at least to me it is...
