Post J.G. Ballard - R.I.P.
The BBC is reporting that J.G. Ballard died today. :(

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/8007331.stm

Not only were his books awesomely written and darkly entertaining, he really was one of the few writers in current times willing to take a truly hard and critical look at the present and where it was taking us.  His dark pessimism resonated with me.  High-Rise is a particularly good example of that.

I strongly recommend any of his first four post-apocalyptic novels, especially The Wind from Nowhere. Crazy shit.

I've seen the movie 'Crash' based on his book. Now that was strange to a level most folks aren't used to. Gonna have to and grab a copy of the novel to read also.

Being a fan of post apocalypse stuff I'll try and grab one of the four novels you suggested also walkerp.

The movie based on his Crash not to be confused with another good movie based on another Crash. Anyway -

He's had quite an interesting life, apparently.

Ooh, that link shows there is a film of High Rise in pre-production. Done well that could be quite amazing.

Yeah I've seen the one based on his book. The one with sexual arrousal through auto accidents and such. Quite odd but in a good way. It was direct to DVD if I remember correctly. It's been a while.

No, it played in the theatres, art houses mainly though that was time when there were a lot more art house theatres. It caused a stir. Cronenberg directed it.

Well that explains why I never saw it around here. No art house type theater within hours of driving. Heck the local theaters wouldn't even carry Tank Girl when it came out.

I was probably more cognisant of it at the time it came out because, being Canadian, it is mandatory that I be aware of whatever David Cronenberg (one of four succesful Canadian directors) is doing at any given time.
