Post Is there a toilet on Flash Gordon's rocket ship?
I've been wanting to draw up some pulp/retro spaceship deckplans... I'm figuring I'll use Illustrator and Photoshop since they're handy. They're for a setting I'm working on but if they don't suck too awful bad I'll post them online somewhere.

Thing is... when it comes to deck plans... I've never gone beyond quick pencil sketches before... but I want to do something that will look nice... evocative.

So what are the less-than-obvious things I should take into consideration?
I'm thinking the ships should be kind of roomy... not cluttered with bulky equipment.

Should I grid them out or leave them open?

What sorts of things should/shouldn't be featured on Art Deco era spacecraft?

Depending on the size of your ship

Multi-purpose med-station/galley
Repair locker/bay
Vehicle hanger/dock
Tool Locker(s)
Access Tubes (need to get at electronics)

The only thing big and bulky should be electronics. You need room for the tubes and wiring. Preferably build it into the furniture.
