Post Re: Roll For News, a new podcast
I just finished listening to episode one. My random thoughts while digesting it:

I like the quick hits, the guests don't stay overlong. You do a good job of giving guests a good chance to have their elevator pitch and it is obvious you're excited about their efforts.

Its funny that you say the show will be fifteen minutes, but the episode is almost twenty-one minutes. Shot yourself in the foot giving me a time limit then breaking it. I forgive you.

The audio quality is rough, lots of artifacts and hard S's and a few P pops. I know recording over Skype is rough, but I'm surprised that the parts with just you were equally rough. Did you modulate the solo bits to match the Skype interviews or just rolling with a cheapie mic or what? We've spoken over Skype and it doesn't sound that bad that I recall.

You are talking about what excites you, that is awesome! I hope you can keep up the pace, a biweekly solo show where you line up three interviews seems daunting to me. I don't envy you, sir. That said, please keep making this, I really liked the first episode.

I thought long and hard about that. In the end, I didn't feel like I could cut anything else.

I honestly don't know. I've got a cheap USB headset I use. I didn't notice the rough audio, but then I've been listenting to it a lot and am probalby immune to the obvious flaws.
That's not entirely true. I wasn't happy with the intro, but I knew I would never be entirely happy with it. Perfectionism is the enemy of creativity, and all that. I also believe you should start something like this before you are ready.
And finally, I don't know what the heck I'm doing. :D
(Applications for producer currently being considered.)

Thanks. I've already got one of my next chats lined up!

20 minutes seems like more of a reasonable time limit anyway. It goes quickly! 15m might be too "wham-bam-thankyoumam" as we used to say.

I'm looking forward to listening at home tonight! Work - even if I had the ability to listen to audio recordings, which I don't - is not the place for serious listening.

I wonder if something happened when you uploaded or MP3 encoded the file? I listened to the 'cast right on your site. Have you listened to the finished product post-upload?

Yep. First thing this morning. I was just sure I would find some huge mistake.
As I said, I am probably immune to the obvious flaws, parental bias and all that.

I had forgotten that you have a good voice for these things.

To be honest, there wasn't much there in the subject matter that appealed to me this time around, but you certainly can't please all tastes in only 20 minutes! With three main topics per episode you're bound to stumble on something that I'll like next time.

I didn't notice anything off about the sound quality, but I did think the music was a bit too loud compared to your voice, and during the intro I was fighting a bit to hear what you said.

I'll definitely give the next episode a listen!

Cheers!
