Post New Year's (gaming) resolutions
Ok, so here be my resolutions for 2013*. What be yours?

•Get Sci-Fi Beta Kappa out there, and playtest Where The Heart Is loads more.
•Play some FATE, Savage Worlds and Cortex.
•Garner some solid GMing experience- build up a range of scenarios that can be whipped out as and when.
•Attend Furnace (a UK con that regularly tops the polls) and Origins.
•Finally get to play Mouse Guard and Jaws of the Six Serpents.
•Find all my blog's cylinders and get it firing on them.
•Do more reading around RPGs and roleplaying in general.
•Clone myself so I can follow all the forums I'm on (though I guess each clone would have to have their own laptop- ok, not such a good idea).
•Try to ensure I don't have all the same resolutions next year as this one.

*Edited from my blog.

*Run and/or play more FATE-based games. As many as possible....
*Work on my RPG project, which means going beyond the conceptual stage.
*Reorganize and trim the fat from my gaming collection.
*Finish preparing the third installment of a Star Wars campaign started in '07.
*Get away from the battlemats and be willing to be more abstract.
*Don't be as hesitant to go outside the box (d20) when learning new systems.
*Attend GenCon 2013 if the funds are available.
*Try to save up for GenCon 2013 to make those funds available.

Catty, if you can clone yourself, you can surely clone the laptop! :P

I've got my eye on Dresden Files, but of course there are a lot of FATE-based games out there. I'm particularly keen on mechanics- such as spending FATE/Drama points etc. that encourage behaviour. Incidentally, with so much free FATE out there, why would someone shell out for the FATE Core KS?

My problem is the opposite: as the archetypal 'indy hippy' gamer/game designer (roll over Robin Laws and Vincent Baker) I need to be less hesitant about stepping into the box.

Hm.. Would you say GenCon provides a better platform for small press RPGs than Origins? If so, dilemma: an internet buddy based in Columbus OH has promised me a ribs dinner if I ever make it over there [lip-licking smiley]

That kind of tech would indeed be cool, although I think I'd draw the line at Star Trek-style food replicators: I've never been tempted by any of Nelix's creations [vomiting smiley].

When is Origins anyway? I might consider that instead, having gone to GenCon in 2010.

The price of flights right now is nuts. That could be the biggest hurdle.

It's June 12-16 this year. I probably won't be able to afford to go either, fares from the UK being even higher than US internal ones :(.

Hm.. FATE seems very popular. I wonder why. I hope I'll find out in this thread.

Scratch GenCon 2013 from my list.

My old car finally turned into a mechanical time bomb and it needed to be replaced. :violin:
